Holidays

Throughout the year, we strive to create holiday celebrations that build strong relationships within our congregation, strengthen the Jewish identities of children and adults, and enhance our Jewish Learning in fun and engaging ways.

Our Jewish year begins with High Holy Day services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  Our High Holy Day services are open to non-members. No tickets are required.  Our community has a tradition of joining together for a post-Neilah potluck break-the-fast at the end of Yom Kippur, so that we can start our new year together as a sacred community.  This is a great way for newer and more long-standing members to get to know one another.

For our members in western and central Nebraska, the Central Nebraska Jewish Community celebrates many of the Jewish holidays together and also organizes car pools to Lincoln for High Holy Days.

See our calendar for details on upcoming holiday services and activities. Visitors and newcomers are always welcome at our holiday events. We hope to see you there!

We gather every year at members’ homes to celebrate Sukkot with sukkah-decorating, a family-oriented service, and a potluck dinner.

On the Shabbat during Chanukah, the Temple hosts a Chanukah dinner, and our families bring their chanukiyot to the Temple to light up our sanctuary with hundreds of candles.

On Purim, we join with members of Tifereth Israel synagogue for a Purim Spiel, with both players and audience members dressed in costume. Of course, we also have hamentaschen!

Our community celebrates the second night of Passover together with a family-friendly community Seder at the Temple.
